Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Game Master Fri Jul 04, 2014 5:21 pm

"It was in a time of great peril that our people forged it.  That horrible weapon.  Its wielder could craft a new world, but we only needed it to destroy one." - 117th verse in the Old Dwarven tablet of Metallurgy.

It was a particularly stormy day in the humble village of Upter. Dark clouds swirled around the town square, and the gusty wind whistled through the signposts and windows of the common market. A few people squandered through the muddy streets – but only for essential supplies. Overall, the town had a aura of uneasiness about it – entirely absent of its usual charm.

A wild and unkempt road cut through the center of the village, zigzagging through the town's two story shops and living quarters. The road stopped at the empty market square, and curved around in a circle. To the west led an outpost leading out of the town towards the castle of Brori. In the east sat all of the small wooden ships used by the villagers to catch fish. A series of small food shops rested in the north. To the south in between the tailor and the brothel sat an old tavern. Its sign violently rocked back and fourth with the prevailing winds and inside the rotting wooden walls was a small collection of drunkards and wanderers.

It was here that our adventurers rested. All of them had just come into this town one way or another, for their own personal agendas.  They were all conglomerated within a table or two, but not seated together like good friends. The locals situated around the dimly lit room failed to notice any them – they were accustomed to foreigners from all sorts of places crossing through Upter; as it was adjacent to one of the greater mercantile kingdoms.

A sudden, loud jolt pierced through the room as lighting struck the ground in the nearby fields, sending a vengeful thunder booming into the town.  The storm was ready to unleash itself upon Upter.  A few of the villagers cursed the gods and wish they had stayed at home, while the intoxicated ones challenged the storm to a fight.

The old, sleazy bartender flashed a toothless grin and teased one of the local patrons.  The bartender then let out a vile chuckle as the young man told him something fierce. During this interaction, a powerful torrent of rain descended upon the village. It drowned out the moans of the wavering and thoughts of the weak-minded. The bartender leapt from his position and charged for the door.  It swung upon with a quick yank and the bartender called out with his hands cupped into the dark abyss.  Hushed by the gods with a mighty crack of thunder, he yelled with futility. The ground around him lit up to reveal the mushy cracks of dirt in the road. He meandered around for awhile, and suddenly tensed up in anticipation.  Within moments a few locals and travelers stormed into the tavern; the door slamming behind them.  The noise of the rain was muffled slightly.

“There's always a few...” the bartender said knowingly. “You can stay here – long as you don't disrupt my good loyal cust'mers!” He wagged his finger in the air and lulled back behind the bar to tend to his drinks. After a pause, more thunder – then the shrill of the old man. “Boy, come down here and tend to the fire, these people are going to get sick!”

A strapping young lad ran down from the second story of inns and quickly rounded the stair beam support. He ducked his legs as he slid towards the dying fireplace and began to work without a word. The people who were caught in the rain took the initiative and huddled around the fire.

One of these individuals covered her face with a hood, and loomed against the wall – her commoner's clothes betrayed her obvious attempts as stealth. Within her soft, pale hands – she clutched something that seemed very important to her.

Basura stands within the tavern, covered head to toe in a patchwork cloak that does nothing to conceal the faint lines of energy that trail across his skin. He spares a moment to glance at the hooded maiden, before sitting down at the corner table and getting out some of his potives.

Vials are withdrawn, and mixed over the course of perhaps three minutes. More than anything, he looks unnaturally tired, though most individuals may not be aware of a typical android's need for rest, or lack thereof.

When he completes his mixing, he raises his hand for a tankard of brew.

A shrouded man sits in the back of the tavern scanning the patrons, A hawk hops around the table pecking at the mans untouched bread. he sighs "well Archimedes.... I'm bored.." With that he gets up and walks the the bar. "excuse me what do you have to drink?" with that question he sits on one of the open stools.

Tariel eyed the others at the table with a steady gaze, they didn't look like the kind of people that would group up yet here he was sitting at the same table as these landlocked people. He waves his hand in gesture to the nearby server girl for another drink of Tusken Rum. The drink is strong and lights a fire in his belly, his head remains clear despite the mass of alcohol hitting his system. These people are getting on his nerves with their blank stares at each other and tension seems to be on the rise. 'This is going to be interesting' he thinks to himself

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Emiya Sat Jul 05, 2014 12:13 am

A young woman sat near the center of the bar, wearing an oversized beige cloak that hooded most of her figure.  Her hand was placed excitedly on a glass of mead next to her, and she paid little notice to the ongoing storm unlike most of the other patrons, instead focusing on the drink and food before her.  She never could understand the human fear of storms - sure, sometimes the thunder made her want to howl back, but the fear aspect seemed so trivial.

Although it did not seem like she had just got out of the rain, she did not appear to have any intention of removing the heavy cloak.  The woman suddenly picked up the glass situated next to her and downed the drink in a gulp.

"Ah, tis a shame this village does not produce any of the northern Peach Mead, it would make this drink all the more splendid.  But still, this is quite good!"  She spoke excitedly to the nearby bartender who flashed a toothless grin back at her in pride.  Suddenly, a flash of thunder resounded across the building and the audible sound of rain could be heard tapping on the rooftop at an alarming rate.  She moved her head to follow the bartenders movements as he rushed to the door and invited some other bystanders in.

"Hmm...  Getting awfully crowded here.  Ah well.  Another glass please, maid-boy."  She said as she held out her glass to the nearby waiter, who no doubt was wondering how much she could drink in a single sitting, considering this was her fourth glass.  In the mean-time, she turned her attention to the bread, ignoring the rest of the commotion.

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Game Master Sat Jul 05, 2014 1:57 am

As the rain pours the crowd murmurs.  The mounted torches flicker and lick the air, dancing the light around the tavern.  A stick sparks.  The young boy wipes the sweat off of his brow, as he desperately tries to start the fire.  He is a shy lad, and this crowd of strangers huddled around him makes him very nervous.  He can feel their cold gaze as they grow impatient.  A few puddles of water accumulated on the wooden planks, dripping from the cloaks of the shivering patrons.

The young girl bit her lower lip and twisted her wrist towards the fireplace - almost as if to aim whatever device was in her hand.  Suddenly, the fireplace puffed and began to glow.  The small boy fell backwards in awe, retreating with his hands away from the fire that began on its own.  The flames waved and bowed - hypnotizing the cold travelers in its warm embrace.  The girl arched herself back into the wall - staring intently at the ground, trying to avoid eye contact.  A large thunderous boom echoed in the distance.

With great conviction - the small tavern door burst open and slammed against one of the large support beams.  Everyone in the room jumped and stared at the entrance.  The wind howled and wrapped itself around the patrons - casting itself over the whole room and silencing the fireplace as well as some of the torches.  Everyone stood silent, and the bartender thought to himself, I coulda swore that was everyone...

The villagers leaned forward and squinted into the dark abyss of the stormy outside world.  Before the door; three unusually tall, dark figures stood like statues in cloaks.  It was impossible to see any facial features within the hoods - almost as if nothing but black space inhabited them.  The heavy rain pattered on them - coolly slipping onto the ground.  They stood starkly, not moving an inch.

"You...you can come in." the bartender said, lacking his usual confidence.  A few villagers darted their gaze nervously, wondering what their intentions were.  The rain continued to pour down.  Lighting cracked through the air, casting a blue light upon the land below.  In this moment, the true form of the visitors was revealed.  Their dark cloaks sulked just above the ground - with no legs to support them.  One of the servant girls screamed, dropping her glass.

Out of each of the three black cloaks ejected small, dark creatures.  A blood-curdling scream echoed from them as they flew into the tavern.  Their blazing fast speed made them only a blur to everyone in the room.  The patrons and workers gasped and fell to the ground - all except for our adventures and the young girl.  They circled around the tavern and then one dispatched for the young maiden.  In that instant, the boy next to the fireplace stood up and braced himself over her.

After a moment's pass, the dark figure stood frozen, floating in the air.  Its horrendous body was difficult to decipher.  A dark shadow emanated from around the creature, making it so that even if one was to stare directly at it, the exact form and motion of the creature was impossible to know.  In fact, gazing to much into its dark shadow was nauseating.  The closet recollection to its body was a black mush of skin, warts, and hair - with a long gaping mouth filled with sharp, curved teeth.  Long - lanky arms were outstretched - with fingers tipped at the end with long - white blades.  Its extended claws pierced through the small boy - blood dripping from the end of his chest - mixing with the pool of water below.

The two other monsters screamed in unison, swirling around the top of the tavern - darting back and fourth with the speed of bugs over crops.  The one that killed the boy unlatched its fingers from the corpse of its victim - and bared its ferocious teeth and let out an unbearable high pitched yell.

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Solidcannon Sun Jul 06, 2014 1:52 am

Tariel watched in horror as the body of the boy slumped into a pool of his own blood, the horror retracted its vile claws from the cold corpse of the boy, blood slowly dripping to the floor from its horrendous claws and mixing with the water puddles on the wood floor.

The creatures let loose a terrible screech in unison, it's sounds almost scratching his eardrums, realizing what was happening Tariel flipped the table and drug it into a corner and laid his spear over it in a readied position, his breath had become ragged and short due to the rush of adrenaline and fear. He tried to steady himself but these horrors were just too much.

Tariel saw in the corner of his eye and young girl stand up and flick her fingers but nothing seemed to happen, Tariel couldn't let this girl stand alone against such vile monsters his pride seemed to well up inside him, to the point till which he felt like he would burst. With a vicious war cry he leaps from behind the table and charges the nearest monstrosity. his feet slam heavily on the wooden floors echoes bounce wildly in the tavern, he nears the creature and plunges his spear deep within the creature.

But to his surprise and horror it felt like he only hit cloth, he starts to panic inside his head. Now the spear starts to pull on his arms like it is being sucked into this vile creature. He braces his back and pulls with all his might reluctantly the spear gives and is released from the creatures "flesh". He immediately turns and plunged the spear into the creature face, the creature screeches in pain and flails around. Tariel feels the a tinge of victory for a moment but a spell of movement catches his eyes, he turns his head and sees a imp-like creature flying towards him with incredible speed, he doesn't have enough time to pull his spear free of the monster.

In sheer desperation Tariel lets go of the spear and brings his fist up into full swing, the imp draws closer and when it got close enough he unleashed the full might of his training and his fist met the imp in mid air right in his face. The imp's face seemed to sink in from the sheer power and tenacity behind the blow and is flung several feet backwards but manages to regain its composure and hurls itself at Tariel but Tariel manages to just get out of the way, but the creatures claws but through his clothes and cut his side. Blood starts to seep out of the wound and into his pants.

Out of nowhere a table flies in and smashes the imp into the floor and left a skid mark where the imp hit the ground. while Tariel is distracted the spear disappears in the blackness that is the creatures being, sensing something dark Tariel turns and out of the darkness his spear comes firing out like a bird in a house fire and burrows itself deep withing his chest. Blood starts to flow and pool onto the floor. Tariel drops to his knees and grabs the spear shaft. realizing his wound was grave Tariel crawls towards the corner and lays against the table he threw over.

He grabs the shaft once and again and braced his left arm under it, to support the weight as to not let the spear head move around in his torso free. He then proceeds to bend in and with a swift snapping motion break it near the skin. 'oh gods, please don't let it end like this' he blinks his eyes to clear away the blur from the blood loss and sees nothing but white, white in all directions a voice that sounded like it was a hundred miles away reached his ears and seemed to resonate with his soul to his very being you could say.

The words were muddled at first but then seemed to become crystal clear "Will you accept the Call to Arm?" Tariel sensed no deception from the voice and he really wasnt in any shape to dismiss this decision. With his hand still on the spear shaft buried into his chest, he goes to speak but blood came out instead and the metallic taste filled his mouth. So instead he nods his head while blood drips off of his chin. A few seconds after he felt and immense pressure on his body, like he was several league below the sea. He felt like his body was about to explode but the power he felt was truly amazing.

He felt like he could tear a mountain apart with his bare hands, suddenly he was back in the tavern and the tavern was mostly gone and fire was rampant. The creatures were still there. The one that had gravely wounded him seemed to have been slain but his cohort in the middle was still there. Pure unfiltered anger coursed through his veins and his body tense to try and control the rage within, he grabs the piece of spear that was left on the floor and brings it to bear. He places his left foot on the tables edge and with a MIGHTY jump he shoots forward towards the creature and predatory roar bellows from his mouth as he brings the spear shaft over head for a downward strike. He brings the wood slams home the shaft into the black nothingness that is the creature. It dissipates into ashes and is gone, Tariel sees the last creature try to leave through what was left of the roof he readied the spear shaft to through and sees a giant bastard sword come flying in a peirce the creature, Tariel also throws his weapon and hits the creature square in the back.

The creature lets out a screech and disappears into nothing, its cloak floats gently down into Tariel hands. Something compelled Tariel to dawn the cloak. Suddenly it was like he had drank straight rum for three full days, the dizzying effects and the fatigue hit him like a rock and he fell to his knees before to the ground.

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Reality Reject Sun Jul 06, 2014 2:41 am

Flipping a table; it's a joke phrase, an expression of comedic rage.

There was little in Basura's expression that could be construed as humorous, however, as he uphended the nearest table and furiously drained his mutagen vial, gripping his rusted dagger in his third arm. From there, the rage flowed natually, easily, as his skin toughened and his muscles twitched and expanded.

Suffer, all of them will suffer, whispered a dark voice within his head, a voice that contained all that restrained emotion.

Basura peeked around the edge of the table just in time to see the hooded girl violently attacked by the same sort of creature that had just slain the youth. He heard the shout of anger from the Barkeeper as he leapt over the counter. He smelled the blood in the air and felt the vibrations juddering in the floorboard as body after body hit the ground.

The world went fuzzy for a few seconds; a knife was thrown, a  table ripped in half before being hauled over to where the girl had fallen, a brief notice that she had disappeared before hurling the tabletop as a discus. The bar keeper died, violently, horrifically, his own blade disappearing into his chest. Another fighter limped away as he suffered much the same fate with a spear.

And then the hooded creatures entered the bar, and all sorts of hell broke loose. They expanded, giving birth to some portal, and foul demonic creatures reached forth from the gate furiously, as if trying to escape.

"Will you lend your aid?" a voice had asked him, as the world had suddenly gone white.

"Of course," replied the Basura-yet-not-Basura.

We help the helpless, after all, muttered that same dark voice from earlier, before becoming awash with power.

There had been some sort of detonation, yet the Basura-yet-not-Basura hardly cared as the flames started devouring the floorboards. He simply ripped the Broadsword from the fallen Barkeeper, now a pile of ashes, and hurled his rusted, trusted, dagger at one of the hooded creatures, a foul oath on his lips as he did so.

The . . . things . . . popped one after another, before the last one simply attempted to flee.

A hurled broadsword and a spear put a stop to that.

The next few moments were somewhat peaceful, yet as the Mutagen slowly wore off, Basura gripped his head, glanced about the burning bar, the ashes that were once patrons, and muttered in a low growl, "Who. . . did . . . this. . . ?"

Then, blood rushing from his head, he slumped over and passed out.

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Emiya Sun Jul 06, 2014 2:47 am

As Inari chomped down on another mouthful of bread, the door burst open with great force, alerting even Inari whose ears twitched at the unexpected sound.  Turning her head slightly, she paused her chewing to check out the situation.  Three robed figures stood in the doorway, not appearing very friendly at all.  The bartender tried to ease the situation, but to no avail.  Inari gulped down the rest of the bread in her mouth and as she did so, flying bat-like creatures that appeared shrouded by some sort of aura flew out from the cloaks of the three figures, and attacked the townsfolk.  Not having time to react in time, one of the bat-creatures pierced its claw right through the maid-boy from earlier.  The creatures screeched, causing Inari to wince and cover her ears still hidden within the hood.  The townsfolk panicked, all of them either finding some kind of cover or just ducking in place as if to hope that the situation would fix itself.

Not one to just roll over and die, Inari rose from her chair and muttered a few lines under her breath, looking straight at one of the hooded figures.  She figured that the flying creatures must be familiars of some sort, and getting rid of the masters should be the priority.  After a moment, she unleashed the Sleep spell she had prepared, and instantly the targeted figure seemed to vanish, its cloak crumpling to the floor lifelessly.

"Hu...  That...  Was not the intended effect?"  She mused to herself silently.

Finally, as if inspired by her magic, a few others rose to face the creatures.  The nearby human met the closest winged creature in glorious combat, successfully covering her back.  Then, some odd looking winged human charged at one of the hooded figures, piercing its chest with his spear.  It looked to her as if it was successful, and thus, she charged to do the same to the last hooded figure.  As she rushed forward, the figure reached out a clawed hand and scratched her through the side, digging deep into her stomach.  In that instant, she almost felt the need to pass out from the intense pain, but through adrenaline persisted and swung her quarterstick at the hooded figure, who dodged the attack quite easily.

Blood poured from her open wound, and she quickly realized she had to escape lest she bleed out or go unconscious.  Thus, she hastily retreated back to the bar, throwing a glass bottle at the hooded figure while doing so.

Suddenly, the previous stationary figures approached the center of the tavern, and some portals began to open, no doubt a result of some kind of black magic.  Just as suddenly, a flash of light filled her minds eye, and a familiar voice resounded through her head.

"Do you accept my help?  Please - you must, lest all those around you perish, and you remain alone."

What was this voice?  The hooded figures, the portals?  Inari did not know, and her 50 years seemed trivial as no amount of wisdom could help her make such a decision in such a situation.  She nodded back at the voice and took the extended hand, and suddenly she returned back to the world, reinvigorated and with her wound closed.  The other combatants from earlier, also seemingly empowered, began to smash through the opening portals, and she too rushed forward in an attempt to close the last one.  She knew nothing but that those portals could not be opened.  As her quarterstick smashed against it, a wave of fatigue hit her and she fell.

Post by Game Master Sun Jul 06, 2014 3:12 pm

Game Master wrote:All items have been removed from everyone's inventory with the exception of starting clothes.

A small convoy of horse-drawn wagons moved quietly through the small forest.  The dirt road that stretched to either side of it was poorly maintained, and so the drivers had to be extra careful as not to catch one of the wheels in a pot hole.  Despite these humble carriages containing several groups of people, there wasn't much discussion between anyone.  Instead, the soft sounds of small wildlife echoed through the trees unfettered.  It was mid-day, but the thick canopy of trees let only small rays of light down onto the convoy.  It would be a calming experience for everyone - had it not been for the sense of loss in all their hearts.

"Daniel, I think they're waking up." a gloomy, gritty voice inquired.  Each by themselves, but almost in unison - our adventurers awoke from their peaceful slumber.  "Oy, you lot finally ready to answer for your crimes?", the voice demanded.  Eventually, the party's vision came into focus.  They could see that they were in a covered wagon, and were propped to the side of it with small patches of hay on the wooden boards underneath them.  In chains, and seated close together - they were compacted side to side.  Everything they owned had been stripped of them except the barest clothes on their backs.  Towards one end of the wagon - the entrance, sat two men in chain mail armor and pointed helmets.  One of them; presumably 'Daniel', was facing away from the party - driving the horses along a dirt path.  The other one was positioned at the seat closest to the driver, with a metal spear and wooden round shield in hand.  His gaze was watchful and filled with contempt.  His eyes darted across each one of the adventurers, and said with a vengeance "Just 'ya wait till we get to Brori, they'll throw you all in the dungeon to rot for the dark magic yeu's was probably practicing."

"Cease your taunts - guard, you're speaking to heroic protectors of an Aluian Royal." a sharp tongue protested.  The angry guard then fixed his gaze on the back of the wagon, and grinned - "I'd advise you keep your mouth closed, deary - you'll be lucky if the king keeps you as a servant.  The crime for imposter'in carries a hangin for most."  The rest of the party followed his gaze to the back of the wagon, and rested on the fair maiden seated in the back.

The young girl was dressed in commoner's rags and was shackled.  Her petite form bounced and swayed with the movements of the wagon - as she did not have the weight to keep her composer.  Her raven hair was wrapped in a pony tail and some strands had managed to escape, sprinkling her head with small, curly locks.  Yet; even in this form - there was something strikingly prestigious about her.  Her rosy cheeks were flushed - and her pale skin made her seem frail and pure.  This lady was caught in the crossroads of youthful beauty - between a woman that any sane man would yearn for in carnal sin; and a woman that one would want to hold close... want to protect from all the bad things in this world.  Above all this, each adventure had the strong sense that they knew her - much like a person would recall a childhood friend from a daydream.

She flashed a knowing smile, and spoke softly "Have no worries, companions - this will all be sorted out when we arrive at the Kingdom of Brori."  She paused, "You've all been asleep for a very long time - and I'm sure you have plenty of questions.  In due time, friends - for now, I shall keep to myself, lest I be taunted more by that fisherman's bully."  She shot a glare at the guard, who snorted and looked away into the forest.

As the wagon trotted along, it became obvious that the ride would take some time.  After awhile, it seemed like the guard began a conversation with Daniel - leaving the shackled party to their own devices.

"dammit Archimedes!... your suppose to wake me if the guard comes...." looking around begins to panic. "Archimedes?! where is my bird and where am i?!"

They took off my hood. And they made sure to chain all of my arms. Smart, or well trained, Basura thought.

He spent a moment, eyes still closed, to listen in on the conversation, then added an addendum to his thoughts.

Definitely not smart. Well trained it is. And they appear to have taken my bomb making materials away from me. And now we're murderers? Can't. . . can't say I'm surprised. Whatever we agreed to really shat the bed when it came to making decisions; incinerated the patrons to the man.

Slowly, angry at the thought, he wrapped the chains around his wrists tighter around his hands, casually discarding any prospect of simply shattering the chains when he felt the heaviness of the metal. At least, for now; he might be able to break free, but from there, what? He'd have revealed an ability he'd rather keep hidden for the moment, and he'd be a wanted man.

He sighed as he saw, through barely open eyes, the occasional tree; he had never felt at home in the wilderness, and he was certain that, if something attacked them, it'd inevitably kill them all; it'd have a hell of a fight on its hands first, though.

Finally, he glanced about, simply to observe his fellow passengers; there was the spear fighter, the sorcerer, the girl that had disappeared after her injury, and the fellow with the hawk.

A strange conglomeration indeed, Basura thought to himself, before stretching his legs.

"They think we're guilty, so arguing otherwise isn't going to sway them," he muttered quietly, voice raspy from lack of use. "Honestly, our situation probably didn't look good to walk in on, anyway."

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Solidcannon Sun Jul 06, 2014 6:34 pm

Tariel's eyelids felt heavy and didn't really want to open, he manages to force them open and is greeted with a strange sight everyone that were in the tavern last night were in chains on both sides of him. 'This is really bad' he thought to himself, he was relatively new to this land and had no grasp on it law system. He then heard a word that shook him to the core "murderer" this is something that was not tolerated in his homeland and expect no less from this country.

"This is getting worse and worse" he thinks to himself as the fool chained next to him started to scream and yell about a damned bird. There was a man that looked like a herbalist chained to the floor as well and he appeared to try and sooth the bird man. Tariel look down and still sees that he is still wearing the cloak from one of those creatures, he war trophy he thinks proudly to himself as he recalled his moments in the fight. At the same time he could feel what seemed like a small tinge or tug at his consciousness but he put it aside for now since there were more pressing matters at hand.

he looked around for the mage girl and saw her in chains as well against the same wall, 'so all who were involved are being taken away huh?" he thought. Something isn't right he can feel it in his gut, something bad is approaching. Tariel decides to just not say anything and wait until opportunity comes his way, he sure as the hell isn't going down for a wrongly imposed crime.

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Post by Emiya Mon Jul 07, 2014 5:43 pm

"Ka-ka-ka...  Foolish rabbit, I have you now...  Now you will return the peach mead to me..."

Inari mumbled to herself before being rudely awoken by the voice of one of the guards.  Her eyes flashed open and she darted her head around trying to familiarize herself with where she was at.  After a moment, she realized she had fallen asleep, and evidently for a long time - she was not used to such long bouts of sleep, as her kind usually operated with 2-hour long naps.  The feeling of having been awoken from such a deep sleep remained with her for the moment, a feeling she was not at all used to.

With great haste and furtiveness, she eyed the rest of the 'passengers' to ensure no one was watching and then proceeded to wipe off the drool that had somehow accumulated on the side of her mouth.    A wise and sneaky wolf she was.

As her senses came back to her, she managed to put together what was going on.  The other prisoners were the same individuals from earlier who participated in saving the tavern.  They were captured by these guards and were being sent back to the capital, under some assumption that the events last night were their doing.  Peachy.  Instinctively, she reached her chained hands to her ears and noticed that they were still conveniently covered despite the fact that the rest of her belongings were missing.  Someone had the courtesy the replace her hood?  It was not so much that she wanted to hide her splendor in the first place, but that she wanted to blend in rather than stand out.  She looked around once again at the other passengers, her eyes finally resting on the girl from earlier.  The girl had a knowing look on her face that made Inari's stomach knot.

However, before she could venture further into that train of thought, the white-haired man spoke up, claiming that arguing with the guards was useless.  True, perhaps, but the fact that she was not a human would probably just incriminate them further once they actually arrived at the capital.  She cleared her throat to get the guards attention.

"Guards, this is really no way to treat two ladies, is it?  You will find shortly that she and I are innocent of crime - though I shant speak for the others."  She held up her hands as if to show that the chains were rubbing her wrists quite harshly.  "These chains are quite rough as well.  I'm sure your wives and towngirls would not think very well of such a treatment towards two innocent young maidens, would they?"

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

The guard raised a furry brow at the woman, almost completely cloaked in garbs.  He hadn't taken much notice to her before, but hearing her voice reminded him of a sweet gal he knew long ago.  He began rationalizing to himself "No decent man would treat a possibly innocent lady this way.  Not one so soft and pouring with an uncanny beauty."  He slid across the seat and prepared to go over to her.

Without a second left to lose, the guard named 'Daniel' driving the cart shot out his hand behind him and grabbed his friend.  The vexed guard turned to face Daniel - and was met with a stern and commanding voice...

"No."

With that, the guard gave one last glance at Inari, with an expression as if he had just lost a chance to know her.  Then, sulked back to his original position - and stared at the ground.

Tariel listened to the girl plead sweet nothings to the guard, he was shocked to see this bigot actually fall for such a old ruse. After this 'Daniel' stopped his friend Tariel could not help but laugh at the girl for such a vain attempt, after he was able to speak he says through chuckles "I can't... believe you actually... tried that" he calms himself down from his jolly, "I see you slept well" he says with a hint of knowing.

The man looks around "so if we are going to fall together we should at least know each others name huh?" smiles warmly as he leans against the side of the cart. He sighs well "Im belorith i hail from an island far south of here well named "Drake Ember Island" and my feather friend in a cage somewhere is Archimedes..." Belorith continues to smile softly trying to brighten the mood.

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

Inari anxiously held up her chained hands for the guard to take, but at the last moment the other guard, with a simple word, shattered any hopes she had of negotiation.  She glared at the back of his head, hoping he realized what he had just done.  As the guard moved back to the front, her shoulders fell and she sighed in defeat.  She closed her eyes and leaned back into her seat, thinking that perhaps she would at least be able to think of some alternative on the ride there.

Her intention of peace was short-lived as the winged man laughed abruptly and dared to mock her.

"I will have you know, bird-boy, that I am not quite like you lot and certainly have no intention of being locked in a bridewell somewhere."  Her voice was that of a refined lady, almost bell-like and perhaps resembling that of a noblewoman with a hint of condescension, but this was just her normal speaking voice, albeit with agitation backing it.  "And I understand you must have been watching my gallant figure - understandable, but doth thou think it impolite to mention it so bluntly?"

She gave a 'hmph' and turned away from him, ready to be rid of the foul creatures poison.  As she did so, the human nearby attempted to ease the situation by introducing himself and his...  Bird...  Which she would not mind having for dinner right about now.  She just remembered that she didn't finish that mead and bread in the tavern earlier.  Regardless, she felt no need to be antagonistic towards this fellow.

"Well met, Belorith.  I am known by many names depending on where we are - but you may call me Inari."

Belorith spoke softly "well" with a charismatic smile" the pleasure is all mine to be in front of two refined and well spoken women as yourself may i add even in those shackles you look lovely" his soft smile never fading "and of you miss?" looking towards the other lady.

The girl in chains giggled childishly.  She was flattered by the overt charisma, and decided to entertain the swashbuckling smooth-talker despite her previous proclamation.

She darted her eyes upward to make sure the guard would not catch her words.  Then in a whisper, she leaned over,  "Much like you Inari," she said gazing at the hooded woman,  "I have many titles from many places.  My closest friends call me Anna."  She paused, "Pleasure to meet you both.  I apologize, as I'm usually much more formal and ladylike with my introductions... But one must consider the circumstances."

Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden Empty Re: Chapter 1 - Fair Maiden

"You have a good eye, Belorith," Inari responded with a devious grin, quite happy with his response.

Inari nodded back at Anna as she also introduced herself.  Inari was still unsure of the girl - there seemed to be a little more to her than she was letting on to the rest of them.  Although Inari's eyes were such that even the slightest facial expression meant a lot, and she could often catch someone in a lie, it was hard for her to tell whether Anna was being deceitful with her innocence or truthful.  Even so, it seemed Anna was someone she could trust for now, and if Anna were truly as innocent as she appeared - then it was the great and experienced Inari's duty to prevent her from falling for the smooth-talking human.

"It is fine to be informal, Anna, methinks even your most informal would be better than this lot deserves."  She winked playfully at Anna, her grin still wide.  "Thus, do not be too impressed with Belorith here.  Perhaps even a toad would be appealing in this situation."

She gave a look to Belorith as if to imply that he would have a tough time trying to swoon any innocent maiden while she were around.

Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. There had been a brief spike of rage when the woman had said 'you lot,' and had spoken as if possessing blue blood were some sort of extraordinary feat rather than luck, but it passed soon enough.

Royals. It had to be royals, muttered the dark voice inside his head. Go figure.

"'m someone, from elsewhere," Basura quietly murmured in a gravely voice to introduce himself, as he glanced between his fellow passengers.
